OSU Summer Music Camp
July 9-14, 2017

A five-day intensive musical experience, the OSU Summer Music Camp offers high school students the opportunity to study their instruments in a comprehensive collegiate setting.  The camp offers three tracks of study: band, orchestra and piano.  Band and orchestra students will have the opportunity to play as members of large ensembles, as well as instrument-specific instruction, led by OSU music faculty members.  Students will be involved in master classes, chamber ensembles, and elective course studies.  Private lessons with OSU faculty are also available.

Students will study in-depth instrument-specific fundamentals, short- and long-term strategies for musical growth, and techniques for high-level performance, including how to progress in the All-State process and other competitions.

For more information about the Band Division, please click here. For more information about the Piano Division of the Camp, please click here.

All events take place on the beautiful OSU-Stillwater campus at the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts.  Days will conclude with time to relax and enjoy all that OSU has to offer with trips to the award-winning Colvin Recreation Center and other activities.

Bassoon Bonanza

Registration is now open for the 2017 Bassoon Bonanza! to be held June 5 - 9 at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  This is a five-day workshop for bassoonists of junior high and high school level in addition to interested adult players.

Resident artists will be Richard Ramey, Susie Brown, and Charlotte Blakely, members of the Tulsa Symphony. Special guest artist for this year will be bassoonist and pedagogue Robert Jordan who will be conducting masterclasses during the week. New this year is the 1st Annual Bassoon Bonanza! Concerto Competition.  The winner will perform the second movement to Mozart’s Concerto for Bassoon at our final gala concert.  The Barking Basset Bassoon Band will be the accompanist. In addition to daily reedmaking sessions, the 2016 Bassoon Bonanza! will offer sessions on a variety of subjects:

“Winning Auditions: Strategies for a great performance,” The Importance of Scales and Arpeggios in Developing Your Technique,” vibrato, “Organizing your Daily and Weekly Practice Sessions,” “Using the Tuning CD to Build Solid Intonation,” “Learning Tenor Clef," “Opportunities for the Musician in the 2010s,” “Buying Your Own Bassoon,” contrabassoon, “An Aural Potpourri of Music for Bassoon,” “Beginning Improvisation for Bassoonists,” bassoon maintenance, and “Making a Bassoon--the Fox Bassoon Factory”

An exciting part of the 2017 Bassoon Bonanza! will be the chance to perform as a part of our massed bassoon ensemble, the Barking Basset Bassoon Ensemble. Participants will come together daily for rehearsals and a final concert on Friday will present the various selections worked on during the week.
