Welcome to Concert Band Season 2025-2026!

Concert Band Rehearsal Schedule

Once auditions are completed and students have been assigned to a concert band, the normal concert band rehearsal schedule will begin. Students are to be seated in chairs and individually warming up @ 8:25. Roll will be taken at this time. Full group rehearsals will begin at 8:30 and go to the end of 1st hour.

Rehearsal Information

On Monday, November 17th, rehearsal will begin at 9:05am. This will only be for a day or two until concert band auditions results have been posted. Once concert band results have been posted, the normal concert band rehearsal schedule will begin to be utilized. During this period of time, the band will work on the Christmas Parade tune and begin preparing for the Holiday Concert. Students will still need their marching band instrument during this time (if it is different than their concert instrument).

Concert Attire

We are making a small change to our concert attire plans this year to help reduce the cost for familes due to the rising costs of purchasing a tuxedo. These new items below will be ordered by the band parent organization and a concert attire fee will be charged to your account. Please read carefully for details by grade level:

Freshman Guys will need to be fitted for black dress shirts and black suit pants. Estimated cost for the shirts and pants: around $50 (not including shipping).

Grades 10–12 Guys who have previously ordered tuxedos will still need to be fitted for the black dress shirts, but may continue to wear their tuxedo pants. Estimated cost for just the shirts: around $21 (not including shipping).

Fitting dates for Guys are October 28th after school & October 29th after returning from OSSAA contest.

Freshman Ladies will have fittings October 21st and 22nd after school. Ladies will have two options:
    1.    Concert Dress – $88
    2.    Black dress shirt and black dress pants – $51 (not including shipping)

Grades 10–12 Ladies may continue wearing their current concert dresses or may choose to be fitted for the pants and shirt option if they prefer. Any upperclassman choosing the pants option should plan to attend the fitting on October 21st or 22nd after school.

These items will be ordered shortly after the fittings in order for them to arrive in time for the holiday concert in December.

All students will provide their own black dress shoes to go along with this concert attire.

Thank you for your flexibility as we make these adjustments to keep concert attire affordable and uniform for all students!

Concert Materials Information

All students will need the Foundations for Superior Performance (commonly referred to as the blue book), a pencil, as well as additional materials defined by each performing group/conductor. Information and deadlines for additional materials will be added after auditions are completed and rehearsals for each band begin.

Audition Information

Auditions will take place the same week as NCDA Auditions. This is a busy week as it is the week before Grand Nationals, but considering all the circumstances involved, it is the best time to hold the auditions.

Auditions for concert band are Monday, November 3rd through Wednesday, November 5th. The process will be similar to past year's auditions and be similar to what will take place at NCDA/OMEA auditions that weekend. Students should read carefully below and listen to instructions given at school in order to thoroughly understand and be prepared for the concert band audition process.

The material is the same music as honor band (both OMEA and NCDA) audition music and was passed out to all students on the first day of school. For clarification purposes, all music that is not marked out must be prepared for honor band auditions. Music that is marked in brackets is the portion that must be prepared for concert band auditions. Students must also prepare scales for both the honor band and concert band auditions.

Students will be placed into one of three concert ensembles based upon audition, skill level, musicianship, eligibility, conduct in class, and ability displayed during audition. Audition results will be posted as soon as possible with the intention for rehearsals to begin the week of November 17-21.

Brass & Woodwind Audition Information

Auditions are scheduled for Monday, November 3rd through Wednesday, November 5th - Auditions will begin after school and run until about 6:00pm each day. Auditions will be done individually via mp3 recorders. Instructions will be given to students on how to operate the recorders and will be included in the audition room to help them through the process. Each audition will consist of a scale set of two concert scales, a chromatic scale, and bracketed portions of the audition material. There will be no sight reading for this audition. Students that are auditioning on more than one instrument should confirm this with Mr. Martin or Mr. Gartner before Friday, October 31st. The audition schedule is subject to change - depending on the number of students that audition on more than one instrument.

Percussion Audition Information

Auditions are scheduled for Monday, November 3rd. Auditions will be done live with directors behind the PAC curtain. All percussion students are to be at the band room no later than 4:10 pm to sign up for an audition time, with auditions beginning at 4:30 pm. All percussion students will be sight reading on snare drum for this audition as well.
