Nathan Jones began teaching in Jenks Public Schools in 2026. His current responsibilities include teaching 7th & 8th grade bands at the middle school, assisting with the Trojan Pride Marching Band and assisting high school concert bands.
Dr. Jones is a multi-faceted music educator and published composer with high-level artistic experiences in instrumental and vocal music. He comes to Jenks from Bixby Public Schools where he served variously as Assistant Percussion Instructor, Coordinator of Music Theory and Composition and Coordinator for 6th Grade Bands. Before joining Bixby, he served as Director of Bands for Will Rogers College Middle and High Schools in Tulsa.
Dr. Jones has a diverse catalog of band and choral works published through G. Schirmer, GIA, Southern Music Publishing, Santa Barbara, and MusicSpoke. He received his Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Kansas in 2016 where he studied with James Barnes and Forrest Pierce. His choral music has been performed in Europe, Southeast Asia and throughout the United States. The American Record Guide has described his music as a “…feast of succulent modern harmonies."
Dr. Jones has a wide performing background serving as percussionist with the Oklahoma State University Wind Ensemble and the Kansas University Percussion Group, and tenor with the Westminster Choir, and the Oklahoma State University Concert and Chamber Chorales. He has also served as conductor for the Bixby High School musical orchestra as well as interim Director of Choirs at both Will Rogers High School and Bixby High School.
He enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife Rebecca, a music educator in Bixby, and their two daughters.
