GLOBAL SOLO AND ENSEMBLE AT JMS
We are having an alternate solo & ensemble contest at Jenks Middle School for the students who participated in this year's Global trip to Thailand. That contest will take place March 28th at Jenks Middle School. CLICK HERE FOR THE SCHEDULE OF THE DAY.
BEFORE CONTEST INFORMATION:
Students were allowed to sign up prior to Winter Break, and most solos/ensembles were passed out the two weeks after Winter Break.
The cost for solo/ensemble is as follows: Solo $12, Duet $10, Trio $7, Quartet or larger $5. Payments may be made through inTouch (through the parent PowerSchool), cash, or check made out to Jenks Band. We are asking the Global students to pay this to cover the cost of our judge.
If brass/woodwind students are playing a solo, they will likely need an accompanist. Here is a list of accompanists in the area. We suggest that students practice with the accompanist at least twice before performing at the event. It's important to note that parents are hiring accompanists for their skill and time. Jenks Band doesn't pay for accompanists.
DAY OF CONTEST INFORMATION:
Students should arrive approximately 30 minutes early to warm up properly. The warm-up area will be located in the choir room (Room 1601). Please enter Jenks Middle School through the 300 wing hallway. To get there, you'll need to enter the school at the east entrance (parent pick-up entrance) and drive to the back of the school. A map is shown below.
Students should wear nice clothing as they will be performing for a judge. ("Nice clothing" means a dress or nice blouse/slacks for girls, slacks and nice shirt for boys. No athletic shoes, tshirts, or jeans!) Students may also wear their "contest attire" for this event (black button-down shirt, black slacks, black dress shoes).
Please note that all times on the schedule are approximate. If the room is running early, then students will need to perform a little early. If the room runs long, then students will need to be ready. I would suggest that students arrive approximately 30 minutes prior to their posted time. They should warm up in the choir room and then proceed to the band room. Stay quiet in the hallway outside of the band room to not disturb the contest. It is important that the warm-up is utilized correctly: warm-up NORMALLY. Do not overplay and wear out your embouchure before you perform. Represent JMS well.
Students will need to provide the judge with the original music-- all measures should be numbered. If Mrs. Cryer or Mr. Hutson gave you the music, then you can find it in a clear box next to the desk outside of the band room. Please find your music and take that to the judge. You do not need to pick up the music after you finish playing--we will get it all from the judge.
After you finish playing, you may go home. You'll need to take your band instrument since the band room is the performance room. Mrs. Cryer will post results on this page as she receives them. You will receive your judges sheet in class on Monday.
This will be a great day! I'm looking forward to watching you get rewarded for all of your hard work!
