What is the camp?
The U of A Jr. High Band Camp is for students completing grades 6-8 this spring. This camp is a great opportunity for your student to improve performance skills and broaden their knowledge through a comprehensive curriculum designed for the varying ability levels of the participants. Students are placed in an ability-level ensemble (via auditions) where they learn new music with qualified conductors. Throughout the week, the students play their instrument and get to participate in a variety of activities. On the final day of the camp, the student ensembles will put on a concert for their parents.
How does the camp work?
All campers participate in auditions on the first day of camp. These auditions enable camp staff to assign campers to the ensemble in which they will be most appropriately challenged. Ensemble placement determines the camper’s schedule for the week and the group in which he/she will perform during the final concerts. The final concerts take place at the end of the camp on July 14th. Students will need to practice the audition material for a better camp experience. We recommend that students take private lessons over the summer to help them prepare for the audition. You may consider reaching out to your student’s band teacher for recommendations.
What are the U of A Camp Registration Deadlines?
Early Registration: $495 ($317 Registration + $178 Dorm Fee) before May 31st
Regular Registration: $555 June 1st-June28
Are there other opportunities for my student if we cannot go to the camp this year?
In 7th grade, students will have the opportunity to audition for the North Central Directors Associate 7th Grade All- Region Honor Band. NCDA All Region auditions are typically held in November and are a great opportunity for your students to challenge themselves. Directors will be passing out music toward the end of the year.
